History of the Christmas pudding tradtion...

 Did you know that...

Puddings range from sweet to savory, with a texture varying from soft to moderately hard. It can take the form of porridges, flans, custards, tarts and dumplings.
The pudding is a thick and soft dessert, typically containing flour, milk, eggs, a flavoring and sweetener.
Christmas puddings originated as a fourteenth century 'porridge' called frumenty. They were made of cereal, breadcrumbs, mutton and beef with raisins, wines, prunes, currants and spices. they were stuffed in sausage skins, enclosed in a pastry and baked. It was eaten as a fasting dish before the Chrismas festivities.
By 1595, the frumenty was replaced by a plum pudding with eggs, breadcrumds, dried fruits and flavoured with spirits and ale.
It became the Christmas desserts but it was banned in 1664 by the Puritans.
George I re-established it as part of Christmas in 1714.
By Victorian times, the Christmas puddings became similar to the ones enjoyed today.
Today, puddings serve as a dessert as in chocolate pudding or as a main dish, such as corn pudding.
It's a dessert in Britain. Some puddings are universally popular (bread and rice puddings) and are made with regional variations.

Lisa's Dessert Tables FYI of the day...

Chocolate is made from plants, which means it contains many of the health benefits of dark vegetables. These benefits are from flavonoids, which act as antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the body from aging caused by free radicals, which can cause damage that leads to heart disease. Dark chocolate contains a large number of antioxidants (nearly 8 times the number found in strawberries). Flavonoids also help relax blood pressure through the production of nitric oxide, and balance certain hormones in the body. Interesting tid-bit about the history of desserts...

Before Desserts...

In ancient times, people enjoyed the food that was available. Ancient civilizations enjoyed the occasional treat of fruit or nuts rolled into honey. This, in essence, is considered the first candy. In general however, it wasn't until sugar was manufactured during the middle ages that people began to enjoy more sweets. Even then, sugar was so expensive that it was a treat reserved only for the wealthy on special occasions. However, starting in about 3000BC there is a discernable and traceable history of many of the foods that delight the sweet tooth.

Lisa's Dessert Tables Tip of the Day....

Having enough desserts is always important when planning a party but sometimes we aren't sure what enough is. Here is an easy way to figure it out.

Beginning by counting your guests and allow for 2 to 3 mini desserts per guest as a minimum. This formula also allows for extra desserts for those that indulge since not all your guests will consume sweets!

Halloween has come and gone...

...but our treats will linger in the memories of our customers until this time next year!

Besides our regular gory and gross Halloween desserts, Lisa's Dessert Tables created a wonderful array of cupcakes along with other decadent desserts for this favorite holiday.  These mini cupcakes were all the rage with our clients and their guests.

Another one of our creations were our Halloween brownie bites.  Frosted in slimy green and topped with chocolate ghosts, witches, bats, tombstones and more, the only trick here was trying not eat them all!

Finally, this Halloween saw lots of orders for our very popular marshmallow pops.  The only spooky thing about these was how quickly they disappeared!

A boo-licious Bouquet of Marshmallow Pops
